Amiral Battı is a classic naval strategy game. Two commanders secretly deploy their fleets on 10×10 boards, then take turns firing at coordinates. Find and sink the enemy fleet before your own is destroyed. This version is free and runs in your browser with no installation. Learn the grid, fleet sizes, firing rules and keyboard controls in the gameplay guide below, or use the same rules for a pen-and-paper battle with a friend.
How a Match Works
- Deploy your fleet. Place five ships horizontally or vertically on your board. Press R to rotate a ship, or click a ship already placed to remove it.
- Pick a coordinate. On your turn, choose a cell on the enemy grid. Red marks a hit; gray marks a miss.
- Keep firing after a hit. Every hit keeps the turn with you. A miss passes it to your opponent.
- Sink the fleet. A ship sinks when all its cells have been hit. The first player to hit all seventeen enemy ship cells wins.
Your Fleet
Both players start with the same five ships, inspired by the Turkish Navy, covering seventeen cells in total:
| TCG Anadolu (L-400) · flagship | 5 cells | |
| TCG Barbaros (F-244) · frigate | 4 cells | |
| TCG Kınalıada (F-514) · corvette | 3 cells | |
| TCG Preveze (S-353) · submarine | 3 cells | |
| TCG Fırtına (P-347) · fast attack craft | 2 cells |
Minefield
After deploying your fleet, lay two mines in your waters. Mines must be placed in empty cells, never under ships. Enemy radar only detects ships, so a mine appears as empty water. Hitting a mine counts as a miss, immediately ends the attacker's turn and makes them skip one turn. Any remaining double shot is also lost. If a depth charge, airstrike or torpedo hits a mine, the attacker's turn does not end right away, but they lose their next turn.
Think about where your opponent will search first. If they start their checkerboard sweep in the center, a nearby empty cell makes a good trap; if they start at the edge, try near a corner. Spread your mines apart so one area attack cannot clear both. Only you can see your mines, shown as yellow dots on your own grid throughout the battle.
Amiral Battı Tactics: How to Win
Good fleet placement and careful shot selection can turn guesswork into a plan. Use these tips to improve your search pattern, follow up on hits and avoid predictable setups. Start with the tactics below and adapt them to your opponent.
- Search in a checkerboard pattern. Before finding a ship, fire at alternating cells like the dark squares of a chessboard. Even the smallest ship covers two cells, so it cannot hide between your shots; searching half the board can reveal every ship.
- Follow the line after a hit. Try one of the four neighboring cells. A second hit reveals the ship's direction. Follow that line until it sinks, then return to your checkerboard search.
- Think in probabilities. Cells near the center fit more possible ship placements than edges and corners. Aim early shots at large, untouched spaces near the center.
- Track the remaining ships. When a ship sinks, update the sizes still afloat. Once the two-cell fast attack craft has sunk, two-cell gaps can no longer hide any ship.
- Make your deployment unpredictable. Clustering ships can expose half your fleet to one area scan, while lining them all up at the edges is easy to anticipate. Mix horizontal and vertical placements and put at least one ship near the center.
- Use tactical systems at the right moment. Use radar early on large, untouched 3×3 areas; save depth charges for a long, clean row; keep torpedoes and airstrikes for working out which way a hit ship lies. Smoke only protects against radar, so deploy it when your opponent's search closes in on one of your ships. Save repairs for a ship close to sinking.
What Is Amiral Battı?
Amiral Battı is the Turkish name for Battleship, the classic naval guessing game with roots in pen-and-paper play. Players draw hidden fleets, call out coordinates and answer with a hit, miss or sunk ship. This browser version keeps that familiar core and adds tactical systems such as radar, torpedoes and airstrikes, plus rank progression and online rooms. See the game overview for the basics.
Game Modes
- Against the AI: Choose Rookie, Captain or Admiral. Admiral AI systematically searches the cells around each hit.
- Two players on one device: Take turns on one screen. The board is hidden during handover.
- Online battle: Create a room and send your friend its five-character code. Hidden ship positions stay on the server and are never sent to the opponent's browser.
How to Use Tactical Systems
Each match gives you a limited supply of special abilities. Activate one from the toolbar, then select its target. Radar marks which cells in a 3×3 area hold ships, without ending your turn; smoke hides a 2×2 area on your board from enemy radar for three turns; emergency repair restores a damaged cell on a ship that has not sunk.
How to Play with a Friend
Together in the same room? Choose “Play on One Device” and take turns on a phone or computer. The screen hides during handover to keep both fleets secret. Playing remotely? Choose “Online Battle,” create a room and share the five-character code or invite link. Matches run in real time, with chat and radio messages. If you disconnect, your session is held for thirty seconds so you can reconnect and continue. The two-player guide summarizes both options.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Is this Battleship game free?
- Yes. The game is completely free, with no payment or sign-up required. Google sign-in is an optional profile feature.
- How do I play with a friend?
- Choose “Create Room” under Online Battle, then send your friend the five-character code or invite link. They enter the code to join your match.
- Do I need to install anything?
- No. Play directly in your browser. You can also use “Install App” to add it to your phone or desktop and play against the AI offline.
- Can ships touch each other?
- Yes. In this version ships may sit side by side or end to end; they just can't overlap. Invalid placements turn red and the ship will not be placed there.
- Can my opponent see my ships?
- In online play, hidden fleet positions stay on the server. Your opponent's browser only receives the cells they hit and the ships they sink.
- Can I play with a keyboard?
- Yes. Move the cursor with the arrow keys. Press Enter to fire or place a ship, and R to rotate a ship.
- How many ships are there?
- Each player has five ships, with lengths of 5, 4, 3, 3 and 2 cells, for seventeen cells in total. In pen-and-paper play, players can agree on different fleet sizes.
- What is the best tactic?
- Fire in a checkerboard pattern until you find a ship; even the two-cell fast attack craft cannot slip through. After a hit, follow the same line once a second hit reveals its direction. Avoid clustering your own fleet or placing every ship along the edges.
- Can I play on my phone?
- Yes. The game adapts to phones, tablets and desktops. Tap to place ships on a touchscreen, and add the page to your home screen to use it like an app.
